First-time Questions

How does the therapy process begin?

To begin, call or text me (530-626-7773) for a free brief consultation. If we come to a mutual agreement to work together, we will schedule your first appointment.

With today's technology, we have more choices in therapy work. While I offer in-person individual and couple sessions, I also carry out virtual sessions. Group EMDR sessions are also available, virtual and in-person. We will discuss these options when you contact me.

Before our first session, I will give you a link to my online registration and other forms you will need to submit, as well as other materials you might need.

What happens in our first session?

After reviewing your paperwork, you will have the opportunity to tell me your story, express your feelings and share your desires for change and growth., Through our conversation, we will begin to assess your strengths and your central concerns. From this, we will form a collaborative treatment plan. You will have a clear understanding of what to work on each day in order to work towards the goals we establish together.

What about treatment and confidentiality?

Your experience will be one of respect and dignity in a safe environment. You are free to ask any questions at any time about your treatment. All communication between us will be held in strict confidence unless you provide written permission to release information about your treatment, for example to family members involved in family or couple counseling. Also, therapists are required by law to report instances of suspected abuse or when they have determined that a patient presents a serious danger of physical harm to self or others.

What about payment?

For individual and couple treatment, fees are $100 per 50-minute session and are payable at the time services are rendered. Pay by cash or check made payable to Linda Marston. In order to simplify and focus my time on patients and their treatment, I do not currently accept insurance.

Concerning children and childcare.

Because every appointment is a special time set apart to assist you, please arrange for children to be cared for elsewhere during treatment sessions. Children may not be left unattended in office or clinic waiting areas. When working with the family, and when helpful and appropriate, children may be invited to attend sessions with you.

How often are sessions, and what if I need to cancel?

Sessions typically occur weekly but can be more often if the nature and severity of your concerns warrants it. Your consistent attendance greatly contributes to a successful outcome. If you must cancel or reschedule, please give 24 hour advance notice or you are responsible for payment for a missed session.
